The Portraits

The concept of gifting a portrait is simple, yet I hope it holds deep meaning. Most adults rarely have portraits taken after milestones like weddings, graduations, or for business purposes. This project offers each person the chance to have a portrait made for any reason and in any style they choose. We’d meet, chat, and begin photographing. Some of us met multiple times, and some even participated in video recordings. The goal was always to build a connection, one that could potentially lead to a longer-term relationship.

The Stories

Several of my neighbors were happy to speak on camera about their lives and experiences in Southwest. I didn't provide any specific prompts, other than encouraging them to share a bit about themselves and discuss any topics that interested them. I was surprised by how open they were. One common theme that stood out was just how much people love living here in Southwest Washington.
